The Bellevue Comet football scored early and often on a rainy Friday night in Stanwood to defeat the North Cedar Knights 55-7. On only the second play from scrimmage Peter Kilburg running behind an outstanding offensive line unit scored on a 42 yard run to put the Comets up 6-0. Less than three minutes later Kilburg hit pay dirt again with a 38 yard run to make it 12-0. Kilburg would add two more 1 yard TD runs in the first quarter and Junior QB Cade Daugherty ran in the 2 point conversions to put the Comets up 28-0 with two minutes left in the 1st quarter.
North Cedar would score on a quick strike 67 yd touchdown pass and catch to make it 28-7 at the quarter break.
The scoring slowed down a bit until 4 minutes left in the second quarter when Cade Daugherty found Trey Daugherty for a 9 yard scoring strike. Peter Kilburg with the two point run made it 36-7. Two minutes later, C. Daugherty took an interception to the house giving the the Comets a 42-7 lead at halftime.
With the clock running in the 2nd half, the Comets would tack on a 3rd quarter touchdown on the Daugherty to Daugherty connection hooking up for another 9 yard TD pass and catch. Cade Daugherty would add the PAT kick and the score was 49-7. Sophomore Hunter Clasen scored the final touchdown of the night to cap off a solid drive by the Comet reserves. His one yard run made the final score 55-7.
The Comets dominated in the statistical categories as well racking up 410 yards of total offense while holding North Cedar to 66 yards of total offense. Senior Ty Oster led the Comet Defense with 6 tackles while classmate Mason Lyons garnered 4 for a defense that only allowed 6 yards rushing and 37 plays on offense for the Knights.
The Comets had 323 yards rushing on 35 attempts for a solid 9.2 yds per rush. Peter Kilburg led the charge with 211 yards on 22 attempts. Hunter Clasen had 70 yards on 6 carries for an 11 yard avg.
In the passing game, Cade Daugherty was 8-15 for 87 yards and 2 touchdowns while Hunter Clasen led the team with 4 receptions for 36. Senior Zach Bullock added a 28 yard grab and Trey Daugherty had 2 catches for touchdowns.
The Comets raised their record to 3-0, 1-0 in district play and will be home on Friday to take on Durant. Kickoff is at 7:00 pm.
