Cross Country

Comet Cross Country took the course on August 21st at the Wahlert Invitational. The boys won the team title of the meet. They were paced by Brady Griebel’s 1st place finish. The Comets head into the season ranked #4 in Class 2A.  In girls action Kailey Miller placed 7th for the Comets.  The teams will be back in action on Thursday in the annual Comet Twilight Meet starting at 7:30 pm.  The meet originally scheduled for Tuesday was postponed due to weather.


The Comet volleyball team started off their season in the Easton Valley Tournament on Saturday. They completed the tournament with a 3-2 match record good enough for 3rd overall. The Comets picked up victories over the hosts, Clayton Ridge, and Marquette Catholic.  Ed-Co and RVC foe Wilton defeated the Comets.  Junior Lindsey Banowetz and Senior Aubree Hager were named to the all-tournament team.

The Comets made their home debut Monday night against Easton Valley where the varsity picked up a 3-0 win over the River Hawks.  The JV team won an exciting 2-1 match, coming from a 9-14 deficit to claim a 16-14 win in the deciding set.  Lauren Dema led the JV Comets with 7 kills while Shayla Oster added 6.  Taylor Wagner recorded 5 ace serves and Hannah Irwin was steady behind the service line serving straight to give the home team win in the final set.  In Fr/So action the Comets fell to the River Hawks 2-0, but had a lot of positives to build on for the season.

All the Comet Volleyball teams will be in action Thursday as they open RVC action against conference new comer Anamosa.  Jr. High starts at 4:15, while Fr/So and JV will begin at 6:00 with varsity starting around 7:30.


Comet Football is looking for another solid year as they head into the season ranked #8 in the state. The Comets got off to a fast offensive start on Friday and sured up the defense after half time to defeat Ed-Co 41-20 in the season opener.  Hunter Clasen rushed for 258 yards to lead the potent Comet offense. Riley Konrardy paced the defense with 7 tackles as the Comets begin the season 1-0.  Friday night Camanche comes to town for the home opener. They were winners over Northeast to open the season.  Kick off is 7:00 pm.

In JV action on Monday night the young Comets were down 21-12 at halftime, but the halftime adjustments helped them to secure a 24-21 victory over Ed-Co. Next up for the Comets is Camanche on Tuesday Sept 4 at 6:00 in Bellevue.
